Ever Been Enchanted
02/23/04

Have you ever been enchanted?
By the solicitous gaze of a passionate stare?
By the esurient caressing of a delicate hand?
Or by the inherent thunder of your heart from that first kiss?
I was once enchanted, in love.
None could have convinced me
That it was not meant to be.
Inevitably, that enchantment was cut short.
I thought our tenacious love would last forever.
I was torn apart.
My torrid feelings
Had become the host for a blazing inferno.
Though as time passed,
What was once pure torture and agony
Is now the sweet serenity
That uncloaks the thick veil of mist
That once swathed my mind.
Now allowing hope that someday I may yet be enchanted again.

Untitled
03/09/04

Like a thief in the night
He took up cudgels
Drew his sword against the knight
And stole the rich man's jewels.
A hero in a black hat
Darts out into the milky face of night
Wearing the tarnished star
Society's brand for knowing who you are.
Hawthorne might oppose
The world's unblinking eyes
Yet Shakespeare might suppose
We are doing battle with our worst enemies,
Ourselves.
Does war scare you?
Or just awaken an honorable spirit hidden within you?
Solipsism, far from the chivalry of a knight.
The self can know nothing
but its own modifications and the self is the only existing thing.
The code of honor for the knight
Always to do what is right
His conscience leaves no room for petty theft
Time to return what is left
Of his dignity
Though a rich man, the jewels to their owner
Never again to fight the senseless, futile war.

If Nature Could Talk
03/25/04

Trees whisper
As the leaves slowly caress my hair.
They say to me,
"Are you not our friend?"
But I could not stop the wicked fiend.
Now they cry to me,
"Save us,
Save us from the Prince of Darkness"
I am speechless.
For I know not any defense
For my friends.

Trees whisper
As the leaves gently caress my hair.
Their residents say to me,
"Where shall we go,
For this is our home?"
I cannot say
I know no other way.
They ask,
"Can you not stop this carnage?"
"Are you not like him?"
You have legs, arms, hands, and fingers.
Yet our pain still lingers.

Trees whisper...

Real Thoughts
04/09/04

Thoughts
What exactly are thoughts?
Complex patterns of rhythmic meters
Or chaotic mutters of the mind
Trying to rid itself of nothingness?
Are thoughts real?
They are not tangible.
They are not taken cognizance of by physical vision.
How can we be sure they are not an illusion?
To be sure?
What exactly is being sure?
Is it a "thought" of security,
Security in ourselves, our being?
Are we really
Just because we think?
Are we not
Just because we do not think?
Are you really "thinking" at this moment?
Am I really "thinking" at this moment?
Thoughts, Thoughts, Thoughts.

Writer's Block
01/06/05

Have not written in a while
It's like my mind walks in an aisle
all by itself.
Can't figure how to put my thoughts on the shelf.
So disorganized,
they are despised
by me, their very creator,
but THEY are 'the tormentor'.
Irreparable damage
to a mind already filled with enough garbage
to fill a million square mile radius
of a nuclear pulse.
Toss and turn
They burn and burn.
Sleepless nights
with incomprehensive fights
unimaginable to the human mind
nowhere will you ever find
the answer you're looking for
nothing less, nothing more.
Try to put them on paper
and the words just taper
into nothing
as if they were running.

Imagine
01/18/05

Imagine life as a different being
if you could imagine such a thing.
Take the hair off of your head,
turn your skin red,
distort your vision,
your entire perception.
Turn everything upside down
and turn round and round.
Stop for one second
then turn in the opposite direction.
What do you see?
How do you feel?
Normal?
No, not quite?
Well, then just think of how children
whose parents can't afford to put Abercrombie and Fitch
on their backs feel
walking into school.
Better yet, picture that repulsive image
of a four year old’s belly bulging
from malnutrition
as she picks up a pile of dirt from the ground
and devours it
like chocolate cake.
How about now?

The Big Why
01/23/05

When I wonder
why are we here,
I picture God as some
Amazing artist
more mind blowing than Da Vinci,
more awing than Michelangelo,
Who was bored.
So, he created the greatest of creations:
Mankind.

We think he is suppose to be the all knowing.
We think he is suppose to responsible for everything.

We expect him to fix whatever goes wrong.
We just do not understand he is ONLY God.
He ONLY created us.
He ONLY knows what we're thinking before we think it.

He expects us to use what he gave us:
Free will,
which includes common sense;
which includes accountability;
which means facing reality.

Our problems are just that,
our problems
So get over it already,
Live.

Katrina
09/15/05

Katrina has come and gone.
In her aftermath of alienation
only remnants remain.
Lives once lived
in the homes below these rising depths
of the relentless waters
are lost, never to return.
Criminals are looting.
People are starving.
Raw sewage just streaming through streets
filled with debris and rubble,
nothing but ruins.
Hopelessness inevitably setting in.
The very souls of people
bleeding through their eyes
just waiting for help.
Children suffering,
bellies bulging from malnutrition.
No food or water for days.
Humid sticky stink fills the evacuation areas,
disease is spreading,
people are dying
right in front of each other.
Medical personnel do their best,
but with lack of resources
it seems to no avail.
The death toll will climb
with each waning hour.
The media predictions
are into the thousands.
Rescue attempts continue.
Unfortunately, so do setbacks.
Moments of temporary insanity
Maniacs trying to shoot
the rescue volunteers.
With such a tragedy at hand
one should be trying to help their homeland,
but instead they just pillage and plunder.
Soon restored
law and order will be.
Then the long journey to recovery.
Picking up the pieces
and restoring faith.
Hell hath no fury
like mother nature unleashed.
May God have mercy.
